The Hilton Garden Inn is located in the retail "heart" of Clifton Park and is attached to Clifton Park Center which is the premier retail shopping center for Southern Saratoga County. The project is owned and developed by DCG Development Company. The project was developed with an extremely aggressive project schedule. The overall project schedule included selective demolition of the mall and construction of a new five story Hilton Garden Inn with 104 deluxe guest rooms, a 5,000 square foot Meeting / Banquet facility with Pre-Function Area, a full service restaurant (Angelo's Prime Bar & Grill) supported by a 2,200 square foot kitchen facility with two cook lines, a spa, a swimming pool, a fitness center, a business center, a library and other hotel amenities. The overall project structure is constructed of concrete foundations, structural steel frame on the first level and structural metal stud framing and precast plank on the remaining upper levels.
The project obstacles consisted of limited site access caused by the mall being in full operation on two sides and the construction of a Regal 10 Cinema Project being constructed simultaneously (Regal construction also by BHC) on the third side. To achieve the construction of the structure with the limited access Bast Hatfield Construction also had to implement the use of a 250 Ton Conventional Crawler Crane which required FAA approval from the Albany International Airport.
Additional obstacles included: asbestos abatement work resulting from unknown asbestos, significant Hilton Prototype redesign changes, and significant interior design changes during the last three months of the project and a full kitchen redesign to meet the needs of the custom restaurant operator. The kitchen was fully constructed from concrete slab sub-base to full completion and operation within 70 calendar days, basically from "dirt to dinner" in 70 days.
Footing and foundations started late February 2011 and the hotel opened on December 6, 2011. Bast Hatfield Construction was able to complete this project within a 10 month duration by working in harmony with the owner, architect, engineers, designers, Hilton management, town and state officials. Only with this full team effort was this project truly a success for all.
